This search utility will connect you with the petfinder.com pet database that will allow you to search for adoptable Great Pyrenees in the United States and Canada. It is designed for research purposes only and we are not responsible for any of the listings contained in their database. Some of the animals are in the care of specialized rescue organizations and others are not.

When considering an adoption animal, always find out as much information on the background of the animal as you can. We do not recommend that you adopt a previous livestock guardian dog as a pet. They usually have little or no socialization around people and can be extremely challenging to train and socialize and can require an experienced handler. However, some Pyrenees that were previously raised as pets can be socialized into successful livestock guardian dogs, provided the animal possesses strong guardian instincts and can be properly socialized with livestock under close supervision until it bonds with the flock.

Asking questions is the only way to determine if the animal is suited to you. Here are some standard questions to ask when making in inquiry on an animal:

  1. Is the animal a stray, abandoned or a surrendered animal?
  2. What is the animals age?
  3. Was the animal a pet, or a livestock guardian dog?
  4. Does it appear to be mixed or purebred?
  5. Is is fixed or neutered?
  6. How is its general temperament?
  7. Does it get along with other animals?
  8. How is is with children?
  9. Is it food agressive?
  10. Is it trained/house trained?
  11. Are there any apparent health problems?
  12. Are there any other apparent problems?
  13. Are there any other issues with the animal that I should be aware of?
