Need some advice
Im having surgery on Monday hopefully I will be able to come home Monday night if everything goes like the Dr wants.I wont be able to do a lot for the first week.Im more worried about Bella than myself.DH will be able to be home with us on Tues but will have to return to work on Wed. Bella will have to stay in her crate till DH gets home from work we have no one that is able to come help with me or Bella everyone works So my question is this will it be to cruel to confine Bella to her crate for 9 hr stretches? Im worried she will not be able to hold her pee.She has never been in her crate for this long at one time. Also im worried about separation anxiety with her and mainly me Im thinking this maybe harder for me than her any advice? This is going to be hard for both of us being Bella is still just a baby of 6 months.

I'm new but here are some ideas
Hi I had a Pyr and had some health issues while he was still alive. I know that your Pyr is fairly young still, and I think 9 hours may be too long of a stretch to expect from her, especially if she has access to water that entire time. She may drink from sheer boredom. You may want to look into a doggie day care or, if that's not available or an option for you, see if you can get a dog walker for the interim, or even ask a neighbor if they can stop by and walk your dog or even just let her into your yard for a while. Hope that helps.

Kimierose,so sorry to hear about the surgery, hope all goes well & that you heal quickly.
Can you call a vet's office to see if anyone knows a good pet walker?
How about your community, church other associations (Elks, Women's Club?)
see if someone could help you out for just an hour or so during the day. A neighbor girl/boy who wouldn't mind coming over to play with Bella?
I can understand your concern, but she may just want to sit by "mommie's" side until she knows you're better....she may surprise you
Please let us know how things go for you when you are able to

Do you have an outside pen or run she can be in while your husband is out? I notice a lot of people in the US seem to keep their dogs inside all day? It isnt an overly common thing here in Australia where the dogs may be inside when the owner is home, but often when they are out they are in a secure pen or run outside or in a fenced backyard (naturally with adequate shelter, shade, water and things like a bone or chew toy etc) during the day where they can get fresh air, sunshine - important for a dogs health - and can pee when they want etc.
Alternately, maybe you can send the dog to a good boarding kennel or doggy daycare for a week (or can the breeder take care of her?) until you are up and around a bit more.

9 hours without a potty break is a bit tough. If it has to come to that, you will need to help by limiting her water intake. Also, if you can keep the room she's in dark, it helps to settle her. I assume this would be only for 5 days (mon-Fri next week), so it's short term.
I recollect you said you guys are in a pretty rural area. As such, I don't know that day care or dog walker is that feasible. Is it possible to have someone stop by just once during the day to take her potty for 10 minutes? The other thought is would it be possible to take her crate to someone else's place and let Bella stay there during the day where they can take her out potty? I mean, to minimize interrupting the other person, have Bella stay in the crate and only taken out for 1 or 2 potty breaks? Daddy can drop her off in the morning and pick her up after work?
This being quite temporary I don't think it's that bad to have Bella crate bound for a week. So don't beat yourself up over it, Kimmie.
If you are able to arrange for someone to come for 10 minutes during the day for potty break, you might think about letting Bella sit with you rather than in her crate. These guys are extremely sensitive and so there is good chance Bella can pick up that you are different and need quiet and will act accordingly. If you can't have someone come over, then it is probably better to crate her so not to give her the opportunity to relieve herself somewhere in the house.
Hope everything goes well with the surgery. Bella will cope, it's only temporary. Concentrate on getting well soon, Kimmie!

Hey, I know Shelbyville's not super close, but here is a website with individuals who will dog-sit and/or walk your dog for you. Might be worth a shot:

Good luck! And I hope you feel better very soon.
