Understood. M going to try and see how she responds. I think if left to her own device, she will still confront the snake (went after the poor pigeon). In the last 2 encounters she is the one to "hold" the snake and alerted us. Only in the last incidence she decided to attack..not good.

Mud my male pyr is very responsive to the street crossing thing. He will look both ways and then cross ....but i'd like to think he will stop if there is a car coming)...there's not many cars here My female on the other hand, i am very sure just like gypsy, understands more than she lead us to believe...

Having rattlers in AZ the dogs have all gone to snake avoidance training....it's very effective & done by a licensed trainer. They use a shock collar & a live, fanged rattler....if you are not brave enough to walk your dog past the snake then the trainer has someone who will
it goes like this...walk past the snake, hear it rattle, if dog is curious, it will get a shock, which the owner must immediately acknowledge by quickly walking away saying "bad snake", scenerio replays itself until trainer feels the dog "gets it" which most dogs get after the first time
next, snake in a sack hanging from a fence, rattles taped so no sound, no sight of the snake, just smell...same thing...if dog is curious, shock, "bad snake" most dogs figure this out without having to get a shock.
this seems harsh, but believe me it works! Better than having to rush your dog to the vet & the cost of the anti-venom. And, depending on the trainer, they will do a refresher course any time you request...just good insurance
wonder if we could do a similar thing up in Alaska with porcupines!!!
