Default Update on our new pup!

Bella is a 55% Great Pyr and 45% Golden Retriever mix. We also have our 1 1/2 year old male Great Pyr, Cheli. Bella is almost four months old and a great addition! She is the most Golden Retriever-looking of her litter and is very sweet. She only has one dew claw on her back legs. Weird.

It is fun to see her growing and her personality coming out. She definitely is leaning toward a Great Pyr personality. She and Cheli are playing together a lot more now that she is bigger and she is a beast! She launches her body at him, jumps on and all over him, bites his lips and feet and runs circles around him. He loves it but at times does not know what to do when she has crazy puppy energy. She does have more energy than he did as a pup. She will be a good playmate for him, expecially when she is bigger. She is deaf to us when she wants to be, and is already guarding and barking outside when she see something strange. I posted pictures in my album.

We are having so much fun with her and Cheli.

Great to hear! But, I have to ask...where did you get the mix percentages?

We were told the mother was 100% Great Pyrenees. The father was 75% Golden Retriever and 25% Great Pyrenees. With my math whiz mind (not!), I just threw out those percentages. I guess saying half and half would make my life a lot easier!

dont get caught up at the percentage, means nothing, some may have 90% pyr while other siblings may be 30% pyrs. I"m studying genetics in canines right now, it's very interesting. Think of a breeding pair as a combination of genes, but remember their genes go back generations....it's not a simple math equation..I wish it would make things easier. I noticed somebody breeding pyrs and goldens on purpose...how traggic as these people are not responsible and I have never seen them take a puppy back, they end up in shelters, plus you have no idea what the temperment will be. I love mutts but have a huge issue of someone doing it on purpose just for money, which is what most do.

Hmm that is interesting to know that their percentages can be different. I know their looks can be but I didn't know about the percentages. I know Missy looks like Pyrenees but gold instead of white. She is also bigger then a Pyrenees should be, but her head and body structure look the part. Now I wish I knew what her siblings turned out like.

We do have two small craters in our front yard that we can't seem to keep them away from. However, the most digging goes on in the the mulch at the front of our house. We decided to just mulch the front with no plants. That way when the craters get out of hand, we just take a rake to the mulch and even it out! They are back at the mulch as soon as we rake but at least the majority of the holes aren't in the grass.

That was interesting reading fluffylove,

I was always wondering what LC was. One parrent was supposed to be 100% english, and the other was supposed to be 1/2 border and 1/2 irish. So I thought LC was 1/2 & 1/4 & 1/4

I guess she was just a really wickedly smart mutt.

I've often said that sometimes the mutts can make the best dogs, but sometimes they can be absolute monsters too. At least the owners I got LC from weren't in it for the money, it was one of those "we had a litter of pups because our neighbors were interested in the offspring, all of them were spoken for except this one, and you can have it for free, if you pay for the spaying" deals that worked out well. I guess that would be the back yard breeder. Although if the dogs are given away, would that fall under that definition?

All of my dogs are mutts except the two pyrs, and perhaps the blue heeler.

On the digging... I've been really fortunate. My dogs (including the pyrs) haven't really been too bad on the digging at all. At least not where I have noticed. I have wood mulch around plants along the front of my house, and they've never messed with it.

How adorable. The pics you posted are priceless. Cheli's expressions are great!! My girl is also a Golden/Pry mix and her personality has turned quite Pyr-ish. But she can still be a ball of energy when she feels it's her time to be crazy. It will be interesting to see how Bella grows up and what coloring will stand out the most. Sophie went from fluffy, to not so, to quite fluffy. We have 2 holes that we can't keep filled and now my boy is getting into them. LOL! Keep up the great pictures!

Just curious, what do you guys mean when you describe your pyr mix as leaning toward a pyr personality? Is it the select hearing thing or something else?
