Default Great Pyr Refuses to Walk

My Great Pyrenees sometimes will walk about 2 blocks and then refuse to go any further. If I try to change directions the only direction he is willing to go is back to the house. If I tug on his leash he'll take a few more steps but then refuse to move. Any suggestions for how to handle this?

    Welcome to the forum!

This behavior is not at all unusual for the breed.

The best advice I can give you is to encourage you to listen to him. If he wants to go home, take him home.

You may also try bringing extra-high value treats with you when you take him out to encourage cooperation. I find that Sebastian will cooperate for nuggets of FreshPet - the refrigerated dog food found in many grocery stores. If I happen to have BBQ brisket with me (just the meat, no sauce), he turns into a circus poodle.
