Default Puppies: What level of activity is safe?

We have a great pyr puppy who is 4 months old. We've read and heard very conflicting things about what levels and types of exercise would be considered safe for her age. For example, we've heard that you should limit activity/play/walking to 20 minutes a day until growth plates are completely closed. However, my vet didn't mention this at all. What about climbing hilly areas in the woods - would that be considered too much activity? Running on level ground?

We want very much to do the right thing, but she seems to long for longer walks/more activity. What is best?

Here's an old thread about exercise for pups. Espinay is a breeder in Australia and she is knowledgeable.
