    Default Is your dog a ____ ?

We get asked, while not frequently but enough, whether Ren is a Saint Bernard...

I know someone who gets asked if this guy is a Saint Bernard...

Iíve been asked if he was an Anatolian, an Akita, and a Great Dane.

Other people just call him Beethoven.

Not with our Pyrs, but with red goldesn---people often take them for Irish Setters. Well, I have had Irish Setters and the only thing is coat color. Irish have arched necks, much longer ears, slope down to their tails, usually much more "narrow> I have actually had a few nitwits try to tell me I didn't know what breed my red golden was.

When Max was a little baby, several people thought he was a full grown lab. Then he grew his fluffy coat, and people either knew he was a pyr or just asked because they had no clue...usually telling us our dog is really big just before asking. We had one person guess "albino st. bernard." Once he shed most of his coat for summer, we have gotten a couple more guesses of lab. I can see how the ear shape and top of head shape are kind of similar to a lab, but his size, his fluffiness, his droopy face and his big curly plume tail!

I usually get asked about the Kangals and not Lily so much. Folks usually ask if she is a White Golden or a Lab. The best ever question about them was when an adult asked if the girls were Pug mixes... Presumably because they have a curling tail and black masks??????!!!! Any thoughts on what you'd have to cross with a Pug to get a 110lb dog with a pointy muzzle?!

Just as there is a dwarf gene in the pyrs, there is a "gianormo" gene in certain lines of pugs...

As usual the troop (both human and doggies, with the occasional leashed cat) will be "lumped" into the car whenever we go for car-rides eg sending my kids to school, or quick grocery supply.

At seeing my 2 pyrenees in the SUV, one passerby exclaimed excitedly "OOOH, ARE THEY GOATS?"
