    Default Sebastianís Adventures in Orthopedics

We just got home from the emergency vet. I got home from work this evening to find that Sebastian had a pronounced limp in his right hind leg. I could tell just by looking at him that he was in a great deal of pain. He was fine when I left for work this morning.

The vet thinks that he has a CCL injury (the equivalent of an ACL injury in humans). He sent us home with some anti-inflammatory meds and wants us to follow up with a Veterinary orthopedist.

On a happy note, both he and Chester were on their 100% absolute best behavior at the emergency vetís office tonight.

I hope we can get Sebastian feeling much much better soon! In the meantime, we will be sleeping downstairs on the couch, so that he doesnít hurt himself any further going up and down the stairs.

I will keep you all posted!

I hope he gets to feeling better soon and hope he doesn't give you too much trouble about his reduced activity level. Sending lots of hugs and healing vibes your way.

Hope Sebastian is feeling better today....our first Pyr had this issue...after having both of her patellas operated on! But by the time she had CCL...she was 10, and any other surgery was not an option.

Angel the Aussie is having a similar issue....since she is 11 with multiple seizures, again, surgery is not an option...but I did get her a neoprene brace for her rear hock, and on the days her leg is really bothering her, I put it on for a couple of hours a day for a few days & it does seem to help

Hope Sebastian won't have to have surgery....hang in there Mom!

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if we could go to a dog park and let Sebastian, Kit, Lily, Zech, Pippa... PLAY!
I would paaaaaaaaaaay to see how Pippa would interact with all of the above! After reading all the stories, I feel like I know them so well and think I could tell more or less what they would do

We chose not to do surgery for Lily's CCL tear given her age and other health issues. It's been a long road but she is doing really well a year later. Really hoping this is not Sebastian's problem and he will be feeling back to normal SOON!!!

Thank you all so much! Our appointment with the orthopedist is on June 19. Fingers crossed that she has good news. The idea of keeping Sebastian on restricted activity for months on end strikes fear in my heart. Even on a lazy day, it is far easier said than done.

The NSAIDs seem to be helping him a lot. This morning, he ďforgotĒ he was supposed to be limping, and took off running after a rabbit in the back yard. Thankfully, the rabbit escaped to safety. Tonight, he has been weight baring off and on, and even demanded that we sleep upstairs.

I am hopeful that we can make it until our appointment without Sebastian accidentally making his injury worse.

Kit would love playing with everyone. She is very gentle with other dogs.

I’m so sorry poor Sebastian is in so much pain. You are such a good mom! Your dogs are very lucky to have you. My goldendoodle’s littermate had OCD, which is genetics, but he healed without any surgery, which was always a mystery to me. Perhaps he never had it? Sometimes things heal on its own given time. Murphy didn’t play fetch for a summer and is now healthy as a horse. I hope Sebastian will get better soon. From my own experiences with orthopedic illnesses, it can be very painful but almost always treatable with patience. I had herniated spinal discs after a car accident and could not walk for months. My recent hairline fracture made me realize that supplement can really expedite orthopedic healing. I’m glad you are taking him to a specialist so you can get the best evaluation to get proper treatment. Oftentimes, regular vets misses more subtle signs that specialist don’t.

I skipped Sebastian anti-inflammatory meds this morning, and he is still ready to PLAY!!!, which is a good sign. He did a post-poop victory lap around the yard about half an hour ago.

Tomorrow is our appointment with the orthopedist. Fingers crossed that she has some good news for me! I will let you all know what she says.
