Default Just bought a great pyr pup! So in love but just wanting to make sure hes purebred

Hi just recently brought home my new puppy cooper, they said he was full breed but just wanting to make sure. He looks purebred to me but I could be wrong here are some recent pictures he turned three months on the first.

Welcome to the forum! Cooper is absolutely adorable! Congratulations!

Granted Im not an expert, but I dont see anything in the photos you have posted that makes me doubt that he is anything but a Great Pyr puppy. With that being said, without some sort of registration with a kennel club that requires the dog have a pedigree that goes back a certain number of generations, there is no way to be absolutely, positively, 100% sure, particularly when talking about Livestock Guardian breeds. There are quite a number of LGD breeds that look a lot alike. It could be that somebody down the line *thought* they were breeding two Pyrs together, but really had a Pyr and a Kuvasz or a Pyr and an Akbash. Maybe there is some Anatolian way back in one dogs ancestry. Stranger things have happened.

Fear not, for here, we love them all. We love the pedigreed Pyrs, the non-pedigreed Pyrs, and the obvious Pyr mixes, because at the end of the day, they are all great dogs with their own strengths and drawbacks.

There are DNA tests you can have done, but they arent always 100% reliable.

Welcome to the forum, Cooper is really adorable. To e he looks pure, but like SM said there are several LGD that look similar. My boy is all Pyr, I will add pics for comparison.

He's pure cuteness, that's for certain!

Does he have double dewclaws? Granted, having double dews doesn't necessary prove purebred, but it would add to the possibility that he may be. He looks like a pyr pup.

    Welcome Samm & Cooper...

he definitely has the cuteness gene!!

as Jewel says, the rear double dews are a mark a a pure Pyr....but not always definative

my thought is wait until he's about 2....and when you call his name and he casually looks your way & decides whether or not to fill your "request"! If he remains aloof...he's most likely pure Pyr!

Look forward to hearing more about him!
