    Default Losing Hair on Elbows?

    Hi fellow pyr lovers!
We have an 8 month male and lately we've noticed some hair loss on his front elbows. Assuming it's from laying on hard surfaces. Has anyone else seen this? If so, how do you prevent it from getting worse? We have a soft pad in his crate already. He likes to sleep on the hardwood floors throughout the day and we put him in his crate at night. Any advice is much appreciated!!!!

The hair loss could very well be due to lying on hard surfaces. When Sebastian was around the age of your pup, he developed bilateral hygromas, or fluid-filled sacs, on his elbows to cushion the elbow joints when he plopped then down on the cool, hard surfaces he loved to lie down on. They looked nasty, but did not bother him at all. If your boy develops these, you do want to keep an eye on them to make sure they donít rupture and become infected.

Provided your boyís elbows donít become dramatically worse in the coming days, I would mention it to your vet the next time you take him in, but not make a special trip (again, if they get a lot worse in a short period of time, or seem to bother him, please take him in). Just try not to laugh in your vetís face when they tell you to give him access to soft sleeping surfaces. I learned the hard way that they tend not to like that. In our case, Sebastian had plenty of ACCESS to soft sleeping surfaces, he just chose not to use them.

Thank you very much for all the info!!!
We'll definitely keep an eye on his elbows. So far you can see some pink skin so we'll see how it goes. He doesn't seem to be bothered by his elbows right now at least.
And noted, don't laugh at vet ;-)
He has plenty of choices for soft beds but of course he prefers the hard surfaces, classic Pyr!
    Thanks again!!!
