Default From the 2013 Great Pyrenees Nationals

Got back home from spending 4 days at the Nationals. This time we were able to take Bro and Bijou with us. Bijou's breeder was the judge at Nationals and so she was able to see Bijou for the first time since Bijou left her kennel at 8 weeks old.

A few months ago I started a thread about our annual pyr picnic where I met a couple that came with a blind pyr. They were there for the Rescue Parade at Nationals. Each of the rescue stories was so very moving, especially the story of Nell the blind pyr. Here she is at the Rescue Parade and her story.

Here are the pyrs that participated in the Rescue Parade. Each of them was abandoned, starved, shot, neglected, or otherwise abused at the hands of humans. These are the lucky ones that were able to leave that horrible life behind with the help of our local pyr rescue SPIN.

Thanks for posting the photo of the rescues & the story of Nell, what these dogs can put up with and still accept humans is incredible! What special people to take in not only a "train wreck" of a rescue, but also to let her true peaceful & regal nature shine through....angels all of them & you too RED!
What did Bijou's breeder think of your lovely girl??
What did Bro & Bijou think about all those big white fluffy potential playmates?!!

Nancy, Bijou breeder said Bijou's bigger than she thought... Indeed, I've always said Bijou's small, but she's really not particularly petite among the females that were there. Bro was not impressed with the all the big males around. I was impressed by these owners walking their dogs, that means including the big intact males, on long flex leads without any issues whatsoever.

Here are a few shots I took around the grounds:

Bijou at the hotel, what's wrong with this picture...

Loved the "different view of the dog show" photo...you can really see the diverse group of people owning & showing their dogs
And so funny to see even a "seasoned" participant like Beren do the typical Pyr attitude of...You can't make me do it, I'm gonna do what I want, when I want!

Just in case anyone looking at this thread isn't familiar with a dwarf pyr, this is truly a purebred great pyrenees, but exhibiting the dwarf gene. This dog wasn't intentionally bred to be a dwarf, and hopefully the parents aren't continuing to be bred as they carry the gene.

Dwarf pyrs freak me out. They look like a whole 'nother breed. But amazing, all the same.

Do you have a link for the Nell story? That isn't a video?
