Marking Newborns

I was hoping someone could help me with the best way to keep track of our newborns. We have 4 girls and 3 boys - all solid white. I was told to tie a ribbon around their neck or mark them with nail polish. However, I am concerned that the ribbon could choke them and that the nail polish might irrate them.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

If you use nail polish besure to put it on the underside of a toe nail and make sure it's dry. PLEASE!

I used to go to the pet store and pick up small cat collars, they sell cheap ones and you have a lot of different colors to choose from.
