Weight At 4 Mo.

I have a female and I am wondering about what the average weight should be. She weighs 40 pounds right now. Is that about right? Thanks

40 pounds is fine, although many are bigger at that age, you should be able to feel her ribs easily through her fur, without her being gaunt. She should gain approx. 10 pounds a month now. You don't want her over heavy as it will give her problems later with her hips and skeletal structure. She should be eating 6 to 7 cups of large breed puppy food per day, divided in 3 meals

Should I just let her eat as much as she can because I know she does not eat 6 or 7 cups. I just let her have her food all day but she usually does not eat it all.

Generally, its a good idea to put the food down for awhile and take it away in a short time if they do not eat it, this will encourage them to eat the food when it is put in front of them and they will become less fussy

I agree, she's being awfully picky for a puppy, take the food away if she doesn't eat.

Is the food o.k. - is she getting alot of loose stools - it should be a quality puppy food - because now is most important growth stage.

I think it is pretty good food. It is Purina Pro Plan large puppy. I will start to take it away now during the day. Thanks. I will see if she starts to eat more.

My Puppy is almost 5 months now and she weighs 55.5lbs. We had to switch her off of Purina because she would go days without eating....She is now on Iams large breed and starting to turn her nose to that too! So we are in the same boat :)

Hi girls,

try mixing their food with warm water and making it "soupy" for them; or drop a milk bone or some other small treat on the top of their dinner for interest- it's spoiling them a bit, but they are babies - both of these have worked for me!

All of a sudden she is eating more. Lately she has been eating about 8 cups a day. Today she ate a little more than 8 cups. I weighed her last night and she was 49 pounds. She will be 5 monthes on 9-10-06. Maybe she is getting enough.
