There was a great thread earlier about our pets' names and the story behind them...so, I was curious about nicknames and if your Pyrs respond to them. We generally call our dogs by their nicknames. I know some of the Pyrs here have AKC papers with formal names, but what nickname/working name do you call your Pyrs (or other dogs, for that matter), and why?

My current crew-
Henry (Yellow Lab): goes by "Rie-Rie" (just a child-like French reference)

Sebastian: goes by "Punkin-Pie" (I think my grandma came up with that one)

Isabella: goes by "Wiggles" (because her whole body wiggles when she wags her tail)

Gypsy (Pyr) responds to "Sweet Girl" and "Little Girl" and "Gyps"

Scout (Pyr) responds to his name and anything else if I have a treat for him.

Kuma responds to 'Smelly Bear' (despite not really having a doggy odor) and anything said in an excited voice. ('Waffles!', 'More whiskey!', 'Stinker!' and pretty much anything else works)

It's simple at our house. Everyone is called "darling", "sweetie" or "sweetheart" :p I once got yelled at in agility class by trying to give encouragement to my male by calling "come, darling". The trainer yelled, "don't darling him!"

His proper name is Benjamin (the name we got from the rescue), but I also call him:

Count Dogula
Wooftron 2000 (hence my nick)
Barkley Gruffles (this one is odd as he doesn't bark that much)
Biggus Doggus (yes, that's a Monty Python reference)
Millie (for Canis familiaris)
Big stupid-stupid

.... and probably a few others I forgot.

all of our dogs respond to anything as long as it in a happy tone, once something is called in an angry tone ( even if its an actual name) they all look around like " not it!"

Riley ( springer spaniel) is more ofter than not referred to as "raisen" or "poodle". No idea why they just fit because he's a big silly boy.

Bailey is our rescue springer and his name has been lengthened to "bailey boy" mainly because everyone assumes he is a girl because of his tiny size and name most often associated with girls

kujo is our 5 month old pyr he has always been called "my love" and "goose". He is a huge ball of love and sillyness.

Kieran is our other 5 month old pyr often called "kitty" because he is pretty sure he's a cat, he is also called "kee kee".

Those nicknames are harder to say than his "official" name :p

Well, it doesn't matter what he's called, he doesn't listen anyway. This is a Pyrenees we're talking about :)

Our pyr's full name is California Mae, but she goes by Cal, Cali, or Cali Mae (anything along those lines) and "Fatty". ^_^ It was only after two weeks of calling "here doggy" that my husband decided on California (no special meaning), and I got to pick the middle name Mae as something sweet so she wouldn't seem so intimidating. lol.
Our ****erspaniel's full name is Lt. Nick Bradshaw, but he answers to Goose or Goosey. Yes, it's from Top Gun, since the last spaniel was named Maverick (r.i.p.). My husband is in the service, so we thought it seemed fitting. :)
