Someone with too much time on their hands caused a problem with the forums yesterday and as a result we lost a few posts and people that had registered the day before yesterday will need to re-register. Sorry for the inconvenience

Happy to hear it was nothing too serious.

Glad to hear everything is going well. I was shocked when I logged on yesterday. I just don't understand why people do things like that.

Some computer geek who lives in his mommy's basement is trying to show everyone how cool he is by hacking a forum about dogs. This guy must be a real stud to be able to hack this site... Forums are the easiest targets for losers like this because they normally have very little security and run on similar platforms. People like this guy should be removed from the gene pool. Glad everything is back.

Agree - it is sad what people will do for attention. He/she probably has more serious problems than we know.

I don't think they have any serious problems. They are just bored and want to feel like they are cool. These kind of attacks become more common during the summer because the kids are home with lots of free time on their hands. This was probably some college kid or high school kid who wanted to have something to tell his friends about. One more reason I like dogs more than kids...

ya gotta pay attention to the origional post date. Risestar, (site administrator) started this thread back in July of 2009.

Some spamer logged on, pulled up an old thread, then spamed their link hoping to get hits on their site. This has been happening more and more lately. It's a dead give away when you see a five star rating (or any star rating since none of us members even use that feature of this forum).

Perhaps it's because school is out, perhaps it pays really well to cross post links onto as many message forums as possible. Perhaps there needs to be some manual membership authorization from either the moderators or the site administration, before any post can be made. Perhaps if this increase of spamming is bothering anyone else, it would be a good idea to contact the Site Administration or the Board Moderators, and encourage them to edit posts, deleate threads, and remove members who post spam, they have the power to do it. :) Feel free to use the PM system here, I do.

Yeah, the spammers here are a bother. I don't think its an individual but a program that is doing this. On our rescue site, we have an online application form and spammer access it, complete the blanks with garbage and then submit it. Very irritating because submitting an application on one of our dogs is exciting but then to find out its a spammer, so disappointing.

You can change to the V tech boards. They allow it where you have to sign in with a password, etc. and you can check isp's of who is posting and even report them. I ran a board once and that is who I used.

You also can only post one post every 60 seconds.

A lot of forums I visit have moved to them.

They have 100 percent up time, and a great format.
