I am having to fly my daughters 9 month pyrenees home with me to Oregon - she is not well enough to take care of her. I need to know what type of kennel people have used. I just signed up to this forum tonight and am happy to find it and would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

How much does your Pyr Weigh? Im not sure on a Commerical Airliner. I know I wanted to take my PYR on a Private plane to the Bahamas with me and they said the weight limit was 120 lbs and hes way over that.
Id almost suggest ya rent a car and get your PYR who knows how its going to be when strangers at the Airport are handling your dog I dont trust um

rent a car if you can. The cargo holds are very cold in the winter and often carriers will not take the live animals. I looked into it several times. Costs are rediculous and I never trust airlines with pets. A personal fear of mine.
Do research and look it up. They require a plastic kennel that is secured. If you visit your local pet shop and speak to them they should know. Some arilines even sell them at the airport. Also, do the measurements, sometimes it's not just weight but the measurements. My dog was ok for weight but not for size. Be careful, read the airlines track record, find out if it's a separate cargo hold etc.
Good luck.

I just wouldn't fly him.
There is a group of people that transport dogs to new homes. Many of them are truck drivers. It could take a while to get it organized and the dog may be with a driver for a time as he/she works at getting a load that direction. Sometimes they'll arrange transferring the dog to another driver.
Let me research this because I don't know phone numbers or anything like that. Aside from that, like the others, I'd rent a car. If we had flown our Sebastian at 9 months (or even now) he would just lose it.
Sorry to hear though that your daughter is unable to take care for him. How sweet of you to assure her that you'll take care of him.

That looks like the expensive way.

that one mentions it's for senior dogs, but I noticed that it's organized by truckers, maybe the contacts could lead you in the right direction.
Last summer, my husband and I met a man who does the transporting. It's a really neat program, and I know your dog would be taken very good care of with people like this.

They may be able to help you if renting a car is not going to work (I know renting a car one way is either very expensive and/or difficult to do.
You know what Chricton......why don't you also PM me. I have another idea.
