Hi,
i was wondering if anybody knows who breeds the pyrenees with a black and white coat.
My first pyr was nearly all black, but she stopped breeding them...
Are there any breeders who specifically breed for this?
Thanks so much

Hmmm...I've seen some Pyrs with a lot of badgering (silver coloring), but never any with black. One of the Newfoundlands I owned was a Landseer (black and white).

Pyrs are NEVER black, grey, biscuit, red, mostly white ALWAYS. Pyrenean mastiffs are black/white but they are also mostly white. Whatever this lady was breeding was not a pyrenees. Go back into what Mary Crane brought over, read through her book, or any book or standard, black is nowhere to be found on them.

that is actually a totally common misconception, and I found them. Check out the website below. I have HAD a black and white great pyrenees and have numerous pictures of him as well. WITH PAPERS!
Way back it was pretty common for them to have black, but people preference was the pure white color.
My dogs father only had black tipped ears and the mother was pure white. All the male puppies were mixed colors and the females were all 100% white.
This website has quite a few pictures of black and white pyrenees and some pretty good information about them.
There ARE black and white pyrenees ;)

I have spoken to breeders here, and no one has ever heard of black. They are grey, or dark grey, but at the root never black. I'm curious what genetic screaning would prove. I know that the Spanish side often had darker pyrs, hence the pyrenean mastiff, still am curious what DNA would say. Pyrs are rarely born with one dew claw, and she seems to have more of them. I'm not saying one way or another, but from about a 70 year of history and breeding, I have yet to have anyone see one here.
I'll do more searching and see if this comes out anywhere. My breeder in 40 years and over 100 champions has never seen it. Her lines stem back to Mary Crane, 1930's when they were brought. I"ll see what I can find out from vets and other breeders. Red, grey, buscuit, yes, black hmmmm.
