I have walked my pyr off leash since she was a pup. She is now just over 15 months and has got in the habit of bolting when she is off leash. She does this when we are on the trails and I end up chasing her through the woods because she does not come back when called. Any ideas, is she too old to train again for walking off leash without bolting ? ( Usually after a scent or an animal )
Thanks,
Andy

Pyrs WILL take off. It is rare that they do not. I was one that was convinced I could teach them otherwise, at 10 months mine started to really dart. There are techniques that are better than others, but you need to keep her on lead to keep her safe. It's inbeded in this breed, they WILL take off after something more interesting. Like a lab likes water, pyrs like to wander independantly. I started skorjing with mine, harness on him and he 'pulls' me (he won't pull) as we ski. I run with him with the line too and hike.
